I used to see a specialist in Chatswood for almost a year for the skin issues, that doctor gave me a medication injection every six weeks. Dr Keng Chen was surprised after listening to my treatment history and told me I don’t need that much injections as it might have side effects without any improvement of the situation. Dr Keng Chen gave me some medication script and advised me to see him in a year to review. Dr Keng Chen is a good doctor as he could ask me to see him like every two months and maybe have the injection every time so he could make more money. But he didn’t do so as this is not helpful with my skin situation. I didn’t wait too long to see him. The whole consultation lasted for about twenty minutes and he was always patient and listened everything I said without any rush.

I have been attending this clinic for UV treatment for my psoriasis over the past couple of months. The UV treatment I received here overall was very effective in reducing my psoriasis, and I would definitely recommend to others. Paula, the nurse who administered my UV treatments, was also excellent. She was always professional, kind, and made the treatment process much easier. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr Chen was not as positive. During appointments I often felt rushed and that my concerns were not fully heard. At my first appointment, Dr Chen told me that a lesion on my foot was psoriasis. This surprised me because I have had this lesion for around a decade and previous doctors have consistently identified it as a verruca (wart). At the time I was surprised by the diagnosis, but I waited until my follow-up appointment two months later to raise it. When I mentioned that it had always been diagnosed as a wart, Dr Chen immediately agreed that it was a wart. The quick change left me feeling uncertain about the initial diagnosis and reduced my confidence in the consultation. At the beginning of treatment, Dr Chen told me that UV therapy would need to continue for a minimum of three months before significant results could be expected, with a review after about two months. However, at the two-month review appointment he said the psoriasis had healed a lot and that further UV treatment would not provide additional benefit. This confused me because he had initially said treatment would require a minimum of three months to see significant results, and because my psoriasis often smoothens out temporarily when I use steroid cream before soon flaring again later. Dr Chen also told me that if the psoriasis came back within a week I should call the clinic, and that if it came back in a year that would be a good outcome. Unfortunately it returned within a week, so I followed his instructions and called the clinic. The staff told me Dr Chen would call me when he was available. During that phone call I found the interaction quite unpleasant. Dr Chen spoke very quickly and in a raised, dismissive tone, repeatedly asking whether I had expected a cure. I understand psoriasis is a chronic condition and treatments are about management rather than cure, but the tone felt unnecessarily rude and condescending, especially as I was simply following the instructions he had given to call if it returned. Overall the treatment staff at the clinic were great, but my experience with Dr Chen’s communication and bedside manner left me feeling uncomfortable and not fully heard as a patient. Across several appointments and a phone call, I consistently felt rushed, unheard, and at times spoken to in a condescending way. When I tried to share my perspective, information I had researched, or ask questions, it often felt dismissed rather than discussed with curiosity or compassion. I wish I had said all this directly to him during our phone call, but I will not be returning to this clinic. Clear, respectful communication and feeling listened to are really important in healthcare, and unfortunately that was not my experience here. I also want to make it clear that I am not suggesting Dr Chen is a bad dermatologist, and I am sure he has helped many people. My intention is simply to share my experience and highlight the importance of communication in patient care. The practitioner–patient relationship can be just as important as the treatment itself. I hope Dr Chen takes this feedback constructively, as improving communication with patients would make a meaningful difference to the overall experience at the clinic and would benefit his practice as well. I do appreciate the UV treatment I received, and I was also pleasantly surprised that my two-month review appointment was bulk billed so I did not have to pay for the consultation. I am genuinely grateful to Dr Chen for doing that, as I did not realise that was even possible for a specialist appointment. I hope this feedback is received in good faith.

Very disappointing experience. Was there for 5 mins, he was not in a good mood to start with and then when asked me questions about symotoms, everytime I tried to explain he just constantly interrupted me and not let me finish. At the end he wrote the prescription on a piece of paper and was ready to send me off without explanation. I had to ask what was the diagnosis of the condition, otherwise he would have send me off with nothing. Happy to charge at a higher rate than average but no basic patient care. No wonder it was so easy to get a booking. Do not recomend.
